Urban Planning and Housing in Kandahar Valley and Majahead Mena

As the Society of Afghan Engineers (SAE), we are dedicated to leveraging the professional expertise of our members to support the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. Our specific contributions to urban planning and housing, notably for the Kandahar Valley and Majahead Meena projects, were made possible through the extensive volunteer efforts of our leadership and members.

The Kandahar Valley Project

For the Kandahar Valley project, we provided the overarching urban planning concept. Moving beyond high-level conceptualization, we actively participated in the detailed design phase by designing a specific section of the housing development.

This critical work was spearheaded by Ms. Sohaila S. Shekib, a dedicated professional who has held numerous leadership roles within our organization, including SAE President, Board Member, and Chairperson of the Board of Directors. She volunteered her time and professional services to assist Afghan communities and was instrumental in the feasibility study and design of the Kandahar Valley project. The construction of the specific housing section that we designed has been successfully completed.

Majahead Meena Town Planning Concept

In addition to our work in the Kandahar Valley, we applied our architectural and engineering expertise to broader town planning initiatives. We formulated the comprehensive town planning concept for Majahead Meena. Once the conceptual work was finalized, our SAE members formally presented this town planning concept to the Afghan government in 1995 to assist in the country’s urban development strategies.

Through these dedicated volunteer efforts, we continue to fulfill our mission of providing professional assistance to Afghan communities and shaping the future of Afghanistan’s built environment.
