Meet the Leadership of the Society of Afghan Engineers
At the Society of Afghan Engineers (SAE), we operate under a structured governance framework that separates broad organizational oversight from day-to-day administration. To achieve our technical, educational, and humanitarian goals, our leadership is divided into two distinct but complementary bodies: the Board of Directors and the Executive Team (or Executive Committee).
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors serves as the primary governing and policymaking body of the Society. All corporate powers are exercised by, or under the authority of, the Board, and the overall business of our Society is managed under its direction.
The core functions and responsibilities of the Board include:
- Strategic Governance: The Board manifests our organizational purposes by setting short- and long-term goals, identifying strategies, and monitoring progress and achievements.
- Policy and Business Control: In addition to broad oversight, the Board manages, stipulates, and controls all of the policies and business affairs of the Society.
- Financial and Legal Oversight: The Board is responsible for reviewing and approving the annual budget proposed by the Executive Team. It also evaluates, revises, and approves our governing Bylaws and other legal documents.
- Leadership Appointment: Consisting of nine elected members, the Board selects a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary from among its ranks. Furthermore, the Board is responsible for appointing the Society's President from a list of candidates prepared by the Election Committee, and it must approve the President's nominations for Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Executive Team
While the Board focuses on high-level governance and policy, our Executive Team—composed of our officers such as the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer—is responsible for the practical execution of our mission.
The core functions of the Executive Team include:
- Day-to-Day Operations: The Executive Committee is directly responsible for decision-making and operational oversight on behalf of the Board of Directors. This team manages our daily administrative and business affairs to ensure we reach our technical and humanitarian goals.
- Executive Leadership: The President serves as the chief executive officer of the Society, supervising and controlling all affairs in accordance with the policies and directives approved by the Board.
- Financial and Administrative Execution: The Executive Team prepares the proposed annual budget for the Board's review and approval. The Treasurer maintains complete and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements, while the Secretary prepares and maintains all records and meeting minutes.
- Program Implementation: The Executive Team operationalizes our goals by communicating regularly with members, organizing seminars and workshops, maintaining our website, and fostering partnerships with other organizations and Afghan government agencies.
