Ghulam M. Feda, M.S., E.E.

Engineer Ghulam M. Feda is a distinguished Afghan-American electrical and computer engineer, philanthropist, and an active member of our Board of Directors here at the Society of Afghan Engineers (SAE). For more than 35 years, he has led industrial research and development projects primarily in the United States, specializing in organizational efficiency, glass technology, and energy efficiency. By founding the non-governmental organization Afghan Education for a Better Tomorrow (AEBT) in 2009, he has utilized modern telecommunications technology to deliver vital educational and health resources to underserved populations in Afghanistan.

Early Life and Education

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Engineer Feda attended Ghazi High School, where he excelled as a top student in mathematics and science. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Kabul University’s Faculty of Engineering. During his time at Kabul University, he demonstrated an early commitment to education by establishing the Al-Biruni Science Center in Shar-e-Naw, Kabul, where he taught science subjects to high school students preparing for their university entrance exams. He later pursued higher education in the United States, earning a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Professional Career and Engineering Achievements

His professional engineering career spans over 35 years of leadership in industrial R&D projects. He made significant contributions during his long tenure at Owens Illinois (O-I) Global Glass Technology, a global glass technology company headquartered in Ohio. Furthermore, he has provided guidance by serving on advisory boards for various state colleges and universities.

He holds a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (CLSSBB) and has successfully implemented these methodologies to advance energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence in industrial settings. In recognition of his technical achievements, he was honored with a patent award in “Glass Technology” and received a Congressional award for his implementation of innovative energy efficiency projects.

Philanthropy and Tele-Education Initiatives

Passionate about using technology to transform education, he co-founded Afghan Education for a Better Tomorrow (AEBT) in 2009, an organization focused on delivering educational resources to conflict-affected regions of Afghanistan. Serving as AEBT’s president and CEO, he spearheaded the implementation of tele-education and tele-medicine programs to foster deeper learning in resource-constrained communities. Through a collaborative partnership between AEBT and our Society (SAE), we have successfully delivered online engineering seminars and academic workshops to students and educators at institutions such as Herat University, Kabul University, and Khost University.

In addition to AEBT, he is the visionary founder of the Afghanistan Relief Alliance (ARA), a humanitarian organization that successfully delivered crucial relief supplies to over 7,000 vulnerable and poverty-stricken families across Afghanistan. He also holds active board positions for International Orphan Care and Immigrant Integration and Empowerment.

Role at the Society of Afghan Engineers (SAE)

Engineer Feda is deeply involved in the operations and leadership of our Society. He serves as the Secretary of our Board of Directors and is an active member of the Board. He regularly contributes his expertise to our quarterly eNewsletter and our technical conferences, presenting and authoring articles on topics that include renewable energy potential in Afghanistan, Lean Six Sigma process improvement, and the advantages of electronic governance.

Personal Interests

Outside of his professional and philanthropic pursuits, Engineer Feda is an avid traveler. He has authored several articles discussing the architectural techniques of ancient civilizations, as well as various topics related to Afghan history and culture. Additionally, he has appeared as a guest on several television programs to share his scientific and historical knowledge with the public.
