Kandahar University

Kandahar University is a vital regional academic institution in Afghanistan, and we have proudly engaged with its architecture and urban planning programs, having financially supported and engaged its students in our initiatives, such as the Bamiyan International Student Design Competition.

Our Relationship with Kandahar University

As part of our mission to present a forum for Afghan engineers, architects, and scientists, we at the Society of Afghan Engineers (SAE) have actively cultivated strong connections with academic institutions across Afghanistan. Kandahar University has been a valued connection in our ongoing quest to foster the promotion of scientific, architectural, and engineering education for the betterment of our homeland.

Having collaborated with the faculty and students of Kandahar University, we have bridged the gap between Afghan professionals worldwide and the emerging generation of talent within Afghanistan.

Fostering Academic Excellence Through Global Competitions

One of the proudest highlights of our relationship with Kandahar University has been their active participation in the Bamiyan International Student Design Competition. Organized by the SAE Architecture and Urban Design Sub-committee, this initiative challenged architecture and urban planning students to design sustainable housing and infrastructure to re-house the displaced families living in the historic caves of the Bamiyan cliffs.

When we extended the invitation to various Afghan and international universities, Kandahar University eagerly stepped up to the challenge. The university’s Department of Architecture officially registered for the competition, forming a dedicated team that included a faculty advisor and student representation. This collaborative interchange allowed Kandahar University students to showcase their creativity and engage with a network of peers and professionals from around the globe.

Providing Tangible Support and Resources

We understand that engineering and architecture students in Afghanistan frequently face financial hardships and a lack of essential resources. To ensure that the students at Kandahar University had an equal opportunity to succeed in the Bamiyan design competition, SAE organized targeted fundraising campaigns.

Through the generous donations of our members and charity funds, we successfully raised and distributed funds to support the participating students from Kandahar University, alongside their peers from other Afghan institutions. This financial backing was specifically allocated to help cover the costs of design production, equipment, materials, and other related project expenses.

Looking to the Future

Our connection with Kandahar University is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite the Afghan diaspora with the academic communities inside the country. We have remained deeply committed to supporting engineering institutions like Kandahar University by having offered capacity development, technical seminars, and mentorship.

Moving forward, we will continue to seek new opportunities, engagements, and scholarship initiatives to empower the brilliant young minds at Kandahar University so they are fully equipped to build a brighter, more sustainable future for Afghanistan.
